Acid Brushes

Also referred to as a dope brush, flux brush, or soldering brush, an acid brush is a small brush with horsehair bristles and a tin or wood handle. Their durable construction and economical pricing makes them a popular tool for a wide range of applications. Need help choosing the right acid brush for your needs? Our knowledgeable sales team is ready to assist you.

What is an acid brush used for?

Acid brushes have a variety of uses, but they are most commonly used in plumbing applications to apply paste fluxes to piping prior to soldering. With their small size, acid brushes are also handy for dusting circuit boards and other delicate components, as well as gluing, touch-ups, cleaning, and other general-purpose tasks, especially in tight, hard-to-reach spaces.

Are acid brushes safe to use with solvents or chemicals?

Yes, acid brushes were designed especially for use with harsh solvents and chemicals, including glue, stain, flux and cement. Their horsehair bristles are resistant to many different substances, ensuring they won’t melt, dissolve, or otherwise fall apart mid-application.

What are acid brushes made of?

Acid brushes feature horsehair bristles and are available with tin or wood handles. Tin handled brushes have a double-crimped design, while the wood handled brushes hold bristles in place with a strong metal ferrule.

Do acid brushes contain hard or soft bristles?

Acid brushes contain stiff black horsehair bristles. The stiffness of these natural bristles is what allows acid brushes to perform tough industrial tasks like scrubbing and applying chemicals.

Do acid brushes shed bristles during use?

Acid brushes may shed some bristles during use, particularly when they are used repeatedly. To minimize shedding, our economically priced tin handle acid brushes should be disposed of after each use. If bristle shedding is a concern for your task, try one of our wood handle acid brushes; these feature a strong metal ferrule which helps to keep bristles firmly in place.

Why are they called acid brushes?

Acid brushes are named as such because they are designed for use with acidic products, including harsh solvents and industrial glues. Not all bristles can withstand acidic substances, so their naming helps acid brushes stand out for this ability.

Are acid brushes the same as dope brushes?

Yes. The term “dope” refers to pipe dope, a corrosive sealant used in plumbing applications.

Are acid brushes disposable?

Yes, our economically priced acid brushes are great for one-time use. However, with proper care, they can also withstand many repeat uses.

Can I order acid brushes in bulk?

Yes. Our tin handle acid brushes are sold by the box (with 144 brushes per box), making them a convenient choice for high-volume brush requirements.

Do you offer bulk discounts on acid brushes?
